The Velocity SE is the Velocity Standard Elite. The Elite model has duel gull wing doors instead of the older single clam shell door over the pilot. I had originally
considered/ordered the SUV model with its single gull wing door on the pilot side, but after receiving my initial kit delivery and considering the problems trying to get my Mom in a single door Piper Warrior (she has some minor mobility issues), I thought it prudent to add the second door. This coincided with Velocity, Inc. dropping the SUV from their options. So all I had to do to make my SUV a SE was to order the second door and related parts. Now I have an SE with the yoke option. Yoke or center stick is pretty much a wash form me, your mileage and opinion may vary.
I have had other builders tell me that the SE is the Velocity Sport . Even though I test flew the XL when we visited the Velocity plant, the SE seems to give the most bang for the buck. Gotta admit though, the XL is sweeeeet. However, as a new attorney, contrary to popular belief, we are not all rich so cost is still a factor. A factor my student loan debt will appreciate. Also, even though I have had my private license since 1983, I am still a very low time pilot. I was too busy accumulating student loans to have time (read that as money) to fly.
From what I understand the SE handles VERY well and has similar interior dimensions as a twin Travelair. Wow. I keep thinking it is so small….since it is not an XL, however, it is bigger than most other aircraft, what am I gripping about.
